Cane Corso puppies in the house

It's like the guys who used to breed Pit Bulls suddenly got together and had a vote and decided to breed Cane Corsos (or Filas or whatever they are). Six more pups came in yesterday along with mom and dad. That makes 18 Cane Corso pups at Toronto Animal Services and another 9(?) at Toronto Humane Society.

This most recent batch that's come into TAS are older than the others and are at that age when you want to gather up the whole bunch of them and just squeeze them all day long. Their futures, as in whether or not they go back to their owner, is uncertain and if they don't go back, their futures are still uncertain until they get adopted.

Judging from mom and pop, these guys are going to grow into small bears.

For adoption information on these and other dogs (and cats and other animals), please visit Toronto Animal Services.

Update Jan. 28: These pups and parents have been reclaimed by the owner which begs a lot questions - none of which I have any answers to.

Look at those beautiful blue eyes! Wow!

18?? This is nuts. Did some backyard breeding thing go awry or something? Sheesh.
Well, I'd never heard of cane corsos before, and now I'm getting well educated!

They are soo cute! I wish they were closer to me. I'm currently in the market for a mastiff puppy (was thinking an english), and have been looking at responsible breeders aswell as rescues, but the resuces I've looked into dont have puppies, or if they do they already have serious health problems, and are still asking a pretty penny to adopt them. After the adoption fees and surgeries they would need in the near future, I could buy a puppy whos parents have been tested for known health probelms and whatnot.

I'm in the states, about eight hours away. Would i be able to adopt from TAS? And if so do you have any idea if i would have problems re-entering the states to bring one of the pups back home?

I've already adopted two wonderful adult mutts in the past. Adult dogs are great, dont get me wrong, but I want a puppy this time around.

Fred, that picture of the paw is incredibly eloquent! A real heartbreaker. Wish I had taken it.

And, yep, they are really sooooooo cute! Big ole teddy pups! Hope they all find good homes....

Hey Fred, how long do you think it will be before they decide whether or not to adopt them out to the general public?

Elizabeth, I'd say if you're willing to make the drive, getting a dog across the border requires some vet paperwork but otherwise is not a big deal. TAS gets dogs in from the States quite often so there are people there who are quite familiar with what's involved.

DogsDeserveFreedom, I'm pretty sure the first litter of pups will go up for adoption when they are weened but the second litter might have to wait on some legal hurdles to be cleared first. As always, it's best to confirm with TAS South.

Here's their number: 416 338 6668. If you get the answering machine, it'll probably be faster to just call back a bit later.

Love the paw picture... it is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Too many puppies start their lives this way.

Cane Corso's are NOT Fila's so please be careful how you associate the two. People are already confused enough about what a Cane Corso is and isn't. Fila's are lots bigger and lots more aggressive towards strangers. Cane Corso's accept stranger much easily and are a lot smaller. We have both breeds and there are many differences in the two. Cane Corso's are forever mistaken as being Pitbull's which just drives me nuts. They look like beautiful pups and I hope they find good homes.

Did I not call that one last week?

That is pretty much exactly what happened.

Betsy, the thing is I don't know if there is an expert here who can really tell the difference which is why I wrote Cane Corso or Fila or some mixed breed. The intention was not to confuse the two. By your description of temperament and size, it sounds like the father could be a Fila and the mother a Cane Corso.

Those look exactly like purebred blue cane corso puppies. Would like to see mom. The other mom looked more like a Fila or an Azores Cattle dog but these look strangely purebred. I hope they are very careful who they adopt them out to.

Joanne, I'll try and get a picture of mom next time I'm in. Dad, I'm not so sure about.

Betsy you said: "Fila's are lots bigger and lots more aggressive towards strangers." Is this a fact or just your personal experience?

I have no doubt there will be people lined up to adopt these cuties, corso's are expensive. This is why BSL doesn't work, I have a funny feeling we'll be seeing many more puppies just like this in shelters.
